Last Sunday (16th October) saw the release of Miss Saigon: the 25th Anniversary Performance in cinemas across the UK, it has now been confirmed that the screening has recorded the biggest ever debut for an event cinema release in the UK grossing £2.03m.
The news means that the figure overtakes those set in 2014 by Universal’s own Billy Elliott The Musical Live and that due to the success of the screening last weekend, encore screenings of Miss Saigon have been confirmed.
Miss Saigon: the 25th Anniversary Performance will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and to download in the UK on 24th October 2016.
The blockbuster musical’s 25th anniversary was recorded at the Prince Edward Theatre, where it played until February this year. By screening it in cinemas across the UK, it gave cinema-goers across the country the chance to enjoy the beloved musical.
Talking about the news, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, producer of the film and the musical said: “I’m thrilled so many people came to see Miss Saigon in cinemas and gave it such an overwhelming response. With fans embracing the live film as a uniquely cinematic, theatrical and absorbing experience, it is a wonderful gift in my 70th birthday week.”
Fans who missed the special event screenings can still have a chance to experience Miss Saigon in encore performances and on DVD and Blu-ray from next week.
