Playing at the Charing Cross Theatre from the 16th January, the cast and creative team are now well into  rehearsals for the production, directed by Thom Southerland. Have a glimpse of the work they have been doing so far in this video:

Maxwell Caulfield, Zoe Doano and Chris Peluso lead the cast of Thom Southerland’s production of Maury Yeston’s musical Death Takes a Holiday, based on the 1928 Italian play of the same name.

This production is the third musical  to be directed by new Artistic Director of Charing Cross Theatre   Thom Southerland at the venue , following the success of  Titanic and Ragtime.

As well as featuring a romantic score by Maury Yeston (Titanic, Nine), the musical also features a book by multi Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan and Peter Stone.

In Northern Italy, shortly after World War One, Death disguises himself as a handsome young prince to try to understand why life is so precious and death so feared. But when he unexpectedly falls in love with a newly engaged young woman, this mysterious stranger discovers that love may in fact be stronger than death.

The original Italian play also inspired the film Meet Joe Black, starring Brad Pitt, while the musical was nominated for 11 Drama Desk Awards when it premièred Off Broadway in 2011.

This European premiere production includes set designs by Morgan Large, costume designs by Jonathan Lipman, lighting design by Matt Daw, sound design by Andrew Johnson and choreography by Sam Spencer-Lane.
