It has been confirmed by Sisters Grimm that the Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award-winning actor will be narrating their new show Voices of the Amazon, when it arrives at Sadler’s Wells from the 4th July.
This new dance musical, which receives its UK premiere in London, is directed by Pietra Mello-Pittman with choreography by Helen Pickett.
Set in the heart of a Brazilian rainforest, Voices of the Amazon follows the story of Beleza, who is searching for a cure for her dying sister while taking her on a life-changing journey in the rainforest.
Jeremy Irons will be narrating the show and said of the news: “I was very much impressed by both Pietra and Ella in the way they approached me and intrigued by the multi-media approach to the world wide problem of deforestation and attacks upon indigenous populations. Something about their spirit came through their proposal and now having worked with them I know it will imbue the final production which I look forward to seeing.”
The actor is known for his roles in films such as Brideshead Revisited (Golden Globe nominated), The French Lieutenant’s Woman(BAFTA nominated), Elizabeth 1 (Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner) and The Mission.
Meanwhile, casting for the production has also been confirmed and will see Rachel Maybank as Beleza, Charles Damasio, Hicaro Nicolai, Fernanda Muniz, Kauê Ribeiro and Leilani Telles, Michelle Buckley, Liam Burke and Kay Elizabeth and Stefanos Dimoulas all appearing in the production.
The musical features a score composed by Ella Spira in collaboration with Brazilian songwriters Danny Nascimento, Dito Martins and Julien Davis and world‐renowned percussionists Olodum.
Voices of the Amazon will also feature lighting design by Ben Cracknell, stage and costume design by Temple Clark and sound design Adrian Rhodes. WWF, EDEN and Alexander Van Tulleken (CBBC’s Operation Ouch, Channel 4’s How to Lose Weight Well) provide scientific consultation.
