NEWS: Disney’s The Lion King Announces New Cast

The London production has  announced eleven new cast members joining the musical from today.

The new cast includes Janique Charles, Gary Jordan and Dominique Planter who are taking over the principle roles of Nala, Zazu and Shenzi in the production, which is now in its 18th year at the Lyceum Theatre.

Janique Charles makes her West End debut in The Lion King, having moved to London to join the UK touring cast of The Lion King in 2013. Having joined the London cast as part of the ensemble, she will now be playing the principle role of Nala.

Gary Jordan’s previous credits includes roles in the West End productions of Grease (Victoria Palace), Anyone Can Whistle (Savoy) as well as the UK tours of High Society and Playdays Live.

Meanwhile, Dominique Planter has been a swing in The Lion King since 2016 and this marks her West End debut in a principle role.

Other new cast members include Lila Anderson, Owen Chaponda, Deborah Dada, Debôrah Godchaser, Brian James Leys, Nathan Louis-Fernand, Nonhlanhla Makthathini, Rutendo Mushonga, Luciano Santos Souza and Karlene Wray.

Based on the classic Disney animated film, The Lion King originally premiered in London October 1999 and is currently the sixth longest running West End musical of all time.

The musical is directed by Julie Taymor and features a score by Elton John and Tim Rice.
