David Ives’ play will play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a limited run from the 6th October it has been announced.
Patrick Marber will direct Natalie Dormer and David Oakes in this West End premiere production of David Ives’s comedy of desire and fantasy.
Enigmatic actress Vanda Jordan appears unannounced for an audition with director Thomas Novachek. She’s determined to land the leading role in his new production – despite seeming wrong for the part. Over one evening in downtown Manhattan their charged meeting becomes a seductive dance to the end.
This two-hander production will feature designs by Rob Howell and lighting by Hugh Vanstone.
Venus in Fur is an adaptation of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s 1870 novel and was first performed off- Broadway in 2010 before transferring to the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Broadway.
Natalie Dormer will play Vanda Jordan. She is best known for her roles in popular television programmes such as Game of Thrones and The Tudors. Venus in Fur sees her reuniting with Patrick Marber who wrote After Miss Julie, for which she received critical acclaim in the title role at the Young Vic.
Meanwhile, David Oakes is to play Thomas Novachek. He is known for his performances in television’s The Borgias, The White Queen and Victoria. His stage credits include playing Kit Marlowe in Shakespeare In Love (Nöel Coward Theatre) and Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre).
David Ives was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play for Venus in Fur, which was also transformed into a film by Roman Polanski. He is well known for his one act plays All In The Timing and Time Flies.
Patrick Marber is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, actor and director. Previous credits include Travesties (Menier Chocolate Factory/ Apollo Theatre) The Caretaker (Comedy Theatre), Blue Remembered Hills (National Theatre), ‘1953’ (Almeida) and The Old Neighborhood (Royal Court Theatre).
