The full cast for Adam Penford’s production of Ira Levin’s classic thriller has been confirmed.
Joining the previously announced Paul Bradley as Sidney Bruhl and Jessie Wallace as Myra Bruhl in the UK tour will be Sam Phillips (Clifford), Beverly Klein (Helga ten Dorp) and Julien Ball.
The production will be embarking on a twelve week tour from the 5th September, opening at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre before visiting Brighton, Aylesbury, Southend, Guildford, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Colchester, Birmingham and Richmond.
Sidney Bruhl (Bradley), a once- successful writer of stage thrillers, is in the grip of chronic writer’s block. Out of the blue, young playwright Clifford Anderson (Phillips) sends Bruhl one of the only two copies of his brilliant new whodunit, Deathtrap.
Desperate to set Broadway alight once more, Sidney spies his chance to invite Clifford to his remote country home. Oh, and to bring the only other copy of Deathtrap with him!
If Bruhl can kill the newcomer and pass the play off as his own, he could once again be the toast of Broadway.
Deathtrap was written by author and playwright Ira Levin, whose other works include Rosemary’s Baby, The Stepford Wives and Critics Choice . This new production of his play is directed by the newly appointed Artistic Director Designate of Nottingham Playhouse Adam Penford (The Boys in the Band, A Small Family Business and in June 2017, Committee at the Donmar Warehouse).
It is produced by Mark Puddle in association with Paul Tyrer and Jamie Clark for TBO Productions and is a Salisbury Playhouse Production. The creative team for the production includes costume and set design by Morgan Large, lighting by James Whiteside, sound by Ben and Max Ringham and video design by Duncan McLean.
Sam Phillips’ previous stage credits include Sweet Bird Of Youth and First Light (Chichester Festival Theatre), Deathtrap (Salisbury Playhouse), Much Ado About Nothing(Shakespeare’s Globe) and Larisa And The Merchants (Arcola Theatre).
Beverly Klein’s stage credits include: After October (Finborough Theatre), Caroline, or Change and Young Chekhov: Ivanov and Platonov (Chichester Festival Theatre)and Die Fledermaus (Carl Rosa Opera).
Julien Ball’s appearances on stage include: Dead Sheep (UK Tour), Journey’s End (Comedy Theatre), Noises Off (UK Tour), The Relapse (National Theatre), The Threesome(Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Pirates Of Penzance and Twelfth Night (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre).
