Producer David Ian has confirmed that one of soap’s best known actresses is join the current UK tour of Chicago as Mama Morton from the 15th August.
Actress Jessie Wallace will be playing the role of Mama Morton when the touring production visits Nottingham (15 – 20 August), Belfast (5 – 10 September), Liverpool, Glasgow, Aberdeen , Bromley , Woking, Canterbury ,Norwich and Leeds.
The production, directed by Walter Bobbie, also stars Hayley Tamaddon as Roxie Hart, John Partridge as Billy Flynn, Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Neil Ditt as Amos Hart and A.D. Richardson as Mary Sunshine.
Chicago is based on real life events set in the 1920s and Roxie Hart has just shot her lover and ends up in prison alongside Velma Kelly, together they fight to escape death row with the help of smooth talker lawyer Billy Flynn.
The musical was created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander (music), Fred Ebb (lyrics) and choreography by Bob Fosse. Chicago is best known for its sexy score and songs such as ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Razzle Dazzle’.
The full cast for the UK tour also includes: Daniele Arbisi, Nicola Coates, Frances Dee, Adam Denman, Francis Foreman, Waylon Jacobs, Justin-Lee Jones, Dann Kharsa, Chelsea Labadini, Ellie Mitchell, Peter Nash, Helen Siveter, Kerry Spark, Lindsey Tierney and Emily Warner.
Meanwhile, the creative team for the production includes scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington,sound by Rick Clarke and choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse.
