Actors confirmed to play Alexander Hamilton and King George have been announced for the anticipated production, arriving in the West End from November.
It has been announced that making his West End debut, recent RADA graduate Jamael Westman will be playing the title role of Alexander Hamilton. He has recently completed a run of The White Devil at Shakespeare’s Globe, while his other credits include Torn at the Royal Court Theatre, directed by Richard Twyman.
He is joined in the production by Olivier Award nominated Michael Jibson as King George. His previous stage credits include Roots at the Donmar Warehouse, Road Show and Take Flight at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Brighton Rock at the Almeida Theatre and West End musical apperances in Oliver! at the London Palladium and his Olivier nominated turn in Our House at the Cambridge Theatre.
Meanwhile, at certain performances the role of Alexander Hamilton will be played by Ash Hunter who is also making his West End debut. His previous theatre credits include: Light Shining in Buckinghamshire at the National Theatre, Pitcairn at Shakespeare’s Globe, Antony & Cleopatra at the RSC and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Almeida Theatre.
The newly announced principals join the previously announced iles Terera (Aaron Burr), Rachel John (Angelica Schuyler), Rachelle Ann Go (Eliza Hamilton), Christine Allado (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds), Jason Pennycooke (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson), Cleve September (John Laurens/Philip Hamilton), Tarinn Callender (Hercules Mulligan/James Madison) and Obioma Ugoala (George Washington).
Hamilton is a hip-hop musical that tells the story of one of America’s founding fathers Alexander Hamilton, a role originally played on Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The story follows Hamilton from being an immigrant from the West Indies to becoming George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War.
The production which features book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda is directed by Thomas Kail. Meanwhile, the creative team also includes choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire and is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton.
