A new trailer has been released for the upcoming world premiere of Alex Gwyther’s play, running at the Bunker Theatre from the 6th September.
The production, directed by Derek Anderson, will star EastEnders’ star Danny-Boy Hatchard, Joe Idris-Roberts (Forty Years On, Chichester Festival Theatre) and Phoebe Thomas (Hetty Feather, Vaudeville Theatre, The Rose Theatre Kingston and UK Tour) in this first production of the thriller.
Eyes Closed, Ears Covered is a gripping new thriller following two teenage boys as they head from Woking to Brighton with a daring plan to relive a special day from their past.
Seb, a lonely boy who lives in his own world, is bullied at school and longing for friendship. When he is taken under the wing of Aaron, an explosive and unpredictable teenager with no fear, they set off on an adventure that unravels the secrets from Seb’s dark past and the truth about his mother.
With one in five children having been exposed to domestic violence, the play explores the traumatic events at home and the direct effects these can have on mental health.
Talking about being involved with the production Danny-Boy Hatchard said: “Having had previous experience venturing into the mind of someone who struggles with mental health, I have gained a compassionate understanding into how such a condition can have a dramatic impact on an individual’s life. Eyes Closed, Ears Covered explores more of the same, but this time with a direct association to domestic 2 violence, particularly in children. I believe as artists we can always afford to bring more awareness to such an important topic, and this show does just that.”
The idea for the play came about when Alex Gwyther witnessed two young boys playing truant; leading to Gwyther researching child trauma and psychology to help understand the mindsets of those who had experienced harrowing ordeals.
Eyes Closed, Ears Covered will feature set and costume designs by Alyson Cummins, music and sound by Jon McLeod and lighting and video by Norvydas Genys.
Eyes Closed, Ears Covered will play at The Bunker Theatre from the 6th to the 30th September. For more information visit: https://www.bunkertheatre.com/whats-on/eyes-closed-ears-covered.
