As rehearsals get underway for Alex Gwyther’s play, here is a glimpse of what has been happening so far…

Woking 1986. Seb and Aaron have been planning this day for weeks. They’ve written their sick notes. They’ve saved, scraped and stolen the money where they can. They’re actually doing it!
Eyes Closed, Ears Covered follows two teenage boys caught up in an innocent quest to Brighton. As we follow their adventure, through a series of entwining police interviews, we begin to find out that, behind this innocent adventure, lies the dark truth of their hidden past.

This world premiere production directed by Derek Anderson explores the repercussions of traumatic events at home and the direct effects these can have on mental health.
Starring EastEnders’ Danny-Boy Hatchard, Joe Idris-Roberts (Forty Years On, Chichester Festival Theatre) and Phoebe Thomas (Hetty Feather, Vaudeville Theatre, The Rose Theatre Kingston and UK Tour), Eyes Closed, Ears Covered aims to raise awareness of the growing scale of domestic violence against women and children.

Talking about being a part of the production Danny-Boy Hatchard said: “Having had previous experience venturing into the mind of someone who struggles with mental health, I have gained a compassionate understanding into how such a condition can have a dramatic impact on an individual’s life. Eyes Closed, Ears Covered explores more of the same, but this time with a direct association to domestic 2 violence, particularly in children. I believe as artists we can always afford to bring more awareness to such an important topic, and this show does just that.”
The production features set and costume designs by Alyson Cummins, music and sound by Jon McLeod and lighting and video design by Norvydas Genys.

Eyes Closed, Ears Covered will play at the Bunker Theatre from the 6th to the 30th September. For more information and to book tickets visit: https://www.bunkertheatre.com/whats-on/eyes-closed-ears-covered
