The first trailer has been released from the upcoming film starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell.
Released in UK cinemas on the 17th November and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a psychological thriller that stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell.
A prominent surgeon adopts a teenager into his family, but as the teen’s actions grow increasingly sinister, the doctor is forced to make a terrible decision.
Here’s what critics have said about the film when it was screened as part of Cannes festival earlier this year:
Hollywood Reporter: “the new film’s grim scenario of a family under dire threat will make it hard for some to watch. But the impressive rigor of its craft, the skillfully subdued intensity of the acting and the startling originality of the story will make the film unmissable for anyone who cares about bold filmmaking.”
The Guardian: **** “Lanthimos is brilliant at summoning up a whole created world and immersing us in it.”
Vanity Fair: “There are a few tears here and there, some bursts of bracing anger, but Sacred Deer is largely an emotional void.”
The Independent: *** “This one is such a knowing film, incredibly made, and a contender for a big prize in Cannes, but it’s just too clinical. ”
The Telegraph: ***** “Lanthimos’s film is a shattering suburban nocturne about a rich, happy family surreally slip-sliding into hell that slinks around your subconscious like a hungry panther, hunting for soft spots into which it can sink its fangs.”
