It has been announced that Chivaree Circus will return to the Vault Festival with extended version of Becoming Shades from the 24th January.
Taking audiences on a immersive underworld journey in the long dark tunnels of Waterloo’s Vaults, Becoming Shades is based on the classical myth of Persephone and combines live music, physical theatre, aerial acrobatics, fire, dance and mime.
Playing at The Vaults from the 24th January, this retelling transforms the myth, putting Persephone in control and at the centre of the story, leading to her true realisation as The Queen of Shades.
Producers Edward Gosling and Ilai Szpiezak said: “In 2018, the modern form of circus will celebrate its 250th birthday. In order to survive and reach out to new audiences, circus became more fragmented and more specialised. Contemporary circus was born out of a paradigm shift and a burst of newfound energy. We want to push this further in Becoming Shades.”
The production is directed by Laurane Marchive with music composed by Sam West, costume design by Black Lune, lighting by Jessica Hung Han Yung and designs by Carlotta Cabrera.
Chivaree Circus is an award-winning production company that create fearless and exciting immersive circus journeys. Playing with physical movement, technical ability and aesthetic beauty, they aim to re-imagine stories and create worlds giving agency to characters that upend traditional narratives
Becoming Shades will play at the Vaults Festival from the 24th January until the 18th March. For more information and to book tickets visit: https://vaultfestival.com/whats-on/becoming-shades/
