The Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch has announced casting for its upcoming production of the thriller, playing at the theatre from the 15th February. 

James Sutton - Charles Granillo in Rope

It has been confirmed that the Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actor will be playing the role of Charles Granillo in Douglas Rintoul’s production of Patrick Hamilton’s chilling play.

He will be joined on stage by Janet Amsden, Cara Chase, Sam Jenkins-Shaw, George Kemp,Fred Lancaster, Nico Pimparé and Phoebe Sparrow in the production which is  based on a real life 1920’s case.

Two well-bred young men murder a fellow Oxford student just for the fun of it. Placing the corpse in a wooden box, they invite a group of friends over to their Mayfair apartment – including the loving mother of the boy they’ve just killed. Supper is served on the chest holding the gruesome contents. But one of their guests is starting to become suspicious…

Will this daring pair get away with their cat and mouse games?

Patrick Hamilton’s play was first performed by The Repertory Players at the Strand Theatre in 1929 and was later filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1948.

The creative team for this production includes designs by Ruari Murchison, lighting by Mark Dymock and sound by Yvonne Gilbert.
