It has been announced that the Oscar winner will be making his  British stage and musical debut in the award winning musical, playing at the Phoenix Theatre from the 26th March.

Best known for his roles in films such as A Few Good Men, Pearl Harbor and Selma, Cuba Gooding Jr will join the cast of the London production of Chicago to play the role of smooth talking lawyer Billy Flynn.

Further casting for the production has yet to be announced.

Chicago returns to the West End after a UK and international tour, having last been seen in London in September 2012. The musical originally ran in the West End for fifteen years, having first opened at the Adelphi Theatre in November 1997. It then transferred to the Cambridge Theatre in 2006 and then the Garrick Theatre 2011.

The musical has won numerous awards including winning the 1998  Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Musical Production’ as well as the 1998 Critics Circle Drama Award for ‘Best Musical’.

Chicago the musical is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins and features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The 1996 Broadway revival of the show was choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.
