Shows Opening…May 2018

Here’s a guide to a few of the shows that Love London Love Culture is looking forward to throughout May… 


1. Red, Wyndham’s Theatrelast seen in London at the Donmar Warehouse in 2009, Michael Grandage presents the first revival of his production of John Logan’s play, which sees Alfred Molina reviving his role as Mark Rothko and Alfred Enoch as his assistant Ken. 2. Chess, London Coliseum this is the first revival of the classic musical since it was last seen in London in 1986 and stars Cassidy Janson, Alexandra Burke and Michael Ball. 3. Nightfall, Bridge Theatrefollowing the success of Julius Caesar, the new London theatre continues its season with a production of Nightfall by Barney Norris. The cast is set to include Ophelia Lovibond, Claire Skinner, Ukweli Roach and Sion Daniel Young.

4. Not Talking, Arcola Theatrethe Arcola Theatre presents the world premiere of Mike Bartlett’s first play about what happens when we don’t communicate. Check out Love London Love Culture’s interview with cast member Gemma Lawrence here.

Mood Music

5. Mood Music, Old Vic Theatre: from the writer of Sunny Afternoon and Blue/Orange, comes this latest play about the drama of making music. Directed by Roger Michell and starring Ben Chaplin, Joe Penhall’s play is in previews now at the Old Vic Theatre.

6. Into the Woods, Cockpit Theatrethis modern adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical, contains references to contemporary culture and is directed by Tim McArthur. Playing at the Cockpit Theatre from the 23rd May, find out more here.

7. An Ideal Husband, Vaudeville Theatre: Classic Spring Company continues with its Oscar Wilde season at the Vaudeville Theatre with a production of An Ideal Husband, starring real life father and son Edward and Freddie Fox, directed by Jonathan Church.
