Amelie the Musical, Criterion Theatre: following on from a run at the Watermill Theatre, UK tour and a run at The Other Palace, this charming and quirky musical based on the hit French film will be heading to the Criterion Theatre from the 20th May. The cast is set to include Audrey Brisson (The Elephantom, Pinocchio and Pericles, The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk and The Grinning Man) who will be reprising her role as the title character.
& Juliet, Shaftesbury Theatre: this popular show which reimagines the story of Romeo & Juliet and features songs written by hit songwriter Max Martin will be resuming performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre from the 24th September. Directed by Luke Sheppard, the cast for the production includes: Miriam-Teak Lee as Juliet, Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway, Oliver Tompsett as William Shakespeare, David Bedella as Lance, Arun Blair-Mangat as May, Jordan Luke Gage as Romeo, Melanie La Barrie as Nurse and Tim Mahendran as Francois.
Death Drop, Garrick Theatre : having had its run disrupted by the pandemic, this comedy murder mystery will resume performances at the Garrick Theatre from the 19th May. Casting has also been confirmed for the production which will see Willam as 80s pop sensation Shazza, alongside Latrice Royale as Summer Raines, a glamorous American weather girl living in London and Myra Dubois as The Lady all making their West End debuts.
The Prince of Egypt, Dominion Theatre: in more good news, it has been confirmed that this musical based on the animated film will return to the Dominion Theatre from the 1st July. Tickets from July until the 4th September will take place under Step 3 protocols in which there will be social distancing rules in place. Meanwhile, from Monday 6th September 2021 onwards will operate under Step 4 protocols (all legal limits on social contact removed). Directed by Scott Schwartz, the musical stars Luke Brady (Moses), Liam Tamne (Ramses), Christine Allado (Tzipporah), Alexia Khadime (Miriam), Joe Dixon (Seti), Debbie Kurup (Tuya), Mercedesz Csampai (Yocheved), Adam Pearce (Hotep), Tanisha Spring (Nefertari) and Silas Wyatt-Barke (Aaron).
Six the Musical, Lyric Theatre: it has been confirmed that this hit musical will return to its temporary home at the Lyric Theatre from the 21st May before heading back to the Arts Theatre (if all goes according to plan) from the 24th August. Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the musical tells the story of Henry VIII’s wives in their own words and in their own way.
Cinderella, Gillian Lynne Theatre: featuring a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by David Zippel and a script by Emmy Award nominated Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve, A Promising Young Woman, Call the Midwife, The Crown), this new musical is set to reimagine the classic fairytale for a contemporary audience. It is set to begin performances at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on the 25th June.
Love Letters, Theatre Royal Haymarket: set to reopen for a strictly limited time only from the 19th May until the 6th June, this production of A.R. Gurney’s play reunites Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove who appeared in the hugely successful tv series Judge John Deed together.
Hairspray, London Coliseum: the popular musical will make a welcome return to London from July, with tickets now on sale! Starring Michael Ball, who reprises his role as Edna Turnblad – this feel good show includes the songs ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’ and ‘ Good Morning Baltimore’.
Get Up, Stand Up!, Lyric Theatre: having postponed its West End premiere, this new musical based on the life and career of Bob Marley will now begin performances at the Lyric Theatre from the 1st October. It is now booking until the 3rd April 2022.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, London Palladium: Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s family musical heads back to the West End this Summer, with performances set to resume from the 1st July.
