The UK premiere of the Tony Award nominated musical, based on the tv series is set to open at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton on the 5th April.

Showpath Entertainment have announced that Gareth Gates and Divina de Campo are set to star in the upcoming UK premiere of the musical which will also visit: Birmingham, Bradford, Oxford, Dublin, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff, Blackpool, Peterborough, Wolverhampton, Norwich, Leicester, Aberdeen ahead of spending five weeks over the summer at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall prior to visiting Plymouth.

Gareth Gates will star (at certain venues) as as Squidward and  Divina de Campo as Sheldon J. Plankton. They are joined in the production by Lewis Cornay as SpongeBob, Irfan Damani  as Patrick, Chrissie Bhima  as Sandy, Richard J Hunt as Mr Krabs, Sarah Freer  as Pearl, Eloise Davies as Mrs Puff, Hannah Lowther  as Karen and Rebecca Lisewski  as Mayor, Sam Beveridge, Jeremiah Olaleye, Eleanor Turiansky, Rhys Batten  and Reece Kerridge.

When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world!

Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg, the musical features a book by Kyle Jarrow and original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. as well as songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton and additional music by Tom Kitt.

The musical is directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson, with choreography by Fabian Aloise and designs by Steve Howell. The creative team also includes: Musical Supervisor Mark Crossland, Musical Director Marcus Carter-Adams , Costume Designer Sarah Mercade,  Lighting and Video Designer Ben Bull, Sound Designer Ben Harrison, Costume and Wig Supervisor Megan Rarity, Associate Choreographer Paris Green and Casting Director Harry Blumenau.
