The UK premiere of the musical is set to open at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton on the 5th April.

Rehearsal images have now been released ahead of the UK premiere of The SpongeBob musical, which is embarking on a UK tour starting next month. The musical, directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson is based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg.
Following its run at the Mayflower Theatre, the musical will then visit: Birmingham, Bradford, Oxford, Dublin, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff, Blackpool, Peterborough, Wolverhampton, Norwich, Leicester, Aberdeen ahead of spending five weeks over the summer at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall prior to visiting Plymouth.

The cast is led by Lewis Cornay as SpongeBob, with Gareth Gates starring (at certain venues) as Squidward and Divina de Campo as Sheldon J. Plankton. They are joined in the production by Irfan Damani as Patrick, Chrissie Bhima as Sandy, Richard J Hunt as Mr Krabs, Sarah Freer as Pearl, Eloise Davies as Mrs Puff, Hannah Lowther as Karen and Rebecca Lisewski as Mayor, Sam Beveridge, Jeremiah Olaleye, Eleanor Turiansky, Rhys Batten and Reece Kerridge.

The musical features a book by Kyle Jarrow as well featuring original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton. Additional music by Tom Kitt.
