The new film focusing on Willy Wonka’s origin story is set to be released in cinemas this Christmas.
Warner Bros. have now released a brand new trailer for Wonka, heading to cinemas this Christmas and charting Roald Dahl’s character during his earliest adventures – including meeting the Oompa Loompas.
Directed by Paul King, the film acts as prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and shows a young Willy Wonka tying to set up as a chocolatier – much to the dismay of the town and the wealthy elites, with characters including Prodnose (Matt Lucas), Fickelgruber (Mathew Baynton) and Slugworth (Paterson Joseph) who many will recognise for having been mentioned in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It has been co-written by Simon Farnaby and Paul King.
The cast for the film is led by Timothée Chalamet who plays the title character and he is joined by Sally Hawkins as his mother, Olivia Coleman as Mrs. Scrubbit, Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa (who is set to put his dry sense of humour to good use as evidenced by this trailer), Jim Carter and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
Through the trailer, further details have been revealed – including a tiny glimpse into the famous factory Wonka goes onto build, a little insight into the type of comedy we can expect courtesy of Hugh Grant’s Oomap Loompa and of course some magical treats along the way.
Those involved with the creation of the film include: cinematographer Chung-hoon Chung, music composed by Joby Talbot, production design by Nathan Crowley and costume design by Lindy Hemming.
Wonka is the third film adaptation to feature the character, following on from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).
Wonka will be released in cinemas on the 15th December.
