The show arrives in London in March 2024, following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
It has been announced that Sarah Cameron-West’s (Anansi Boys, Amazon Prime; Walk Home, Josie Copeland) one woman show KAREN will be heading to London’s The Other Palace in March 2024.
Written, performed and produced by Sarah Cameron-West, KAREN is centred around around a storm of heartbreak, tackling the internal turmoil of the story’s protagonist as she
journeys through a chaos-filled office narrative and reaches a cathartic finale.
We open on Protagonist’s 30th birthday at the Alton Towers, where her life takes an unexpected turn. Mid-calippo, she’s unceremoniously dumped by her long-term partner, Joe. Little does she know, this is just the beginning. Protagonist soon navigates through office hell as Joe starts dating her arch-nemesis: Karen. It’s a perfect storm of heartbreak, societal pressures, and an identity crisis that threatens to engulf her.
The show is directed by Evie Ayres-Townshend (Fox, Drops and Panda Pops, Omnibus Theatre; Contact, Golden Goose Theatre), with lighting design by Oliver McNally.
Talking about the show, Sarah Cameron-West said: “KAREN highlights the struggle of the universal experience of heartbreak. We watch our protagonist deflect her emotions through
humour and sarcasm however, we come to understand that the only real way to heal is by tackling your emotions head-on. KAREN diverges from the classic one-woman show format by directly engaging with the audience by making them characters in her world with comic effect. KAREN builds up to a cathartic explosion where our protagonist finally confronts her nemesis, her feelings and the truth.”
