Valentine’s day is fast approaching, so why not treat a loved one to seeing a romantic show?

The Phantom of the Opera, His Majesty’s Theatre: in terms of musical scores, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s is certainly one of the most lush and romantic of all time – with songs such as ‘All I Ask of You’ and ‘Music of the Night’ proving just two of the highlights. It is a truly haunting and gothic romance that captures the heart so beautifully, leaving audiences completely enthralled.

Moulin Rouge, Piccadilly Theatre: based on the beloved Baz Luhrmann film, this spectacular show is filled with drama, romance and tragedy as only a true love story can provide. Filled with plenty of pop songs that refer to love and romance, it is a contemporary classic in many ways that knows how to pack a powerful emotional punch. It is a show that is difficult not to fall in love with. Catch up with our review here.

Mamma Mia! Novello Theatre: filled with fun, romance and of course some memorable songs from ABBA, Mamma Mia! is fantastic romance wise as it doesn’t focus on one romance as well as the love and bond between a mother and daughter that means it hits in many different ways. An uplifting and feel good show to catch on Valentine’s Day!

The Time Traveller’s Wife, Apollo Theatre: the story of Henry and Clare is extremely touching and this musical does such a beautiful job in telling this beautiful love story and it feels completely authentic to the book (keeping even small details that the film missed out on). Meanwhile, the music and lyrics by Grammy Award winners Joss Stone and Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and feels so well grounded and true to the characters and story it is had not to fall for this show. Guys & Dolls, Bridge Theatre: for those who love an old fashioned Broadway romance, this production of Guys & Dolls will make you fall in love with classic musicals all over again. Cleverly bringing the audience as close as possible to the action, you really feel the relationships developing from start to finish. It is a real joy to watch.

Hadestown, Lyric Theatre: Greek mythology is filled with love and romance (even if it occasionally ends up disastrous) as well as drama – but there is also a lot of love for this musical itself which begins performances in the West End from the 10th February. It follows the story of two couples: Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone – it is a real treat to be having it in the West End!
