The Pleasance, Patrick Bone and The Project People have confirmed that queer icons Kit Green, Jonny Woo and Lavinia Co-op will be joining the cast of Giselle: Remix as guest star performers.
Performing from the 10th to the 13th April, Kit Green is an Olivier Award winning performer, writer, musician and broadcaster; making accessible entertainments about difficult subjects. Meanwhile, on the 17th, 24th and 25th April, the show will see Jonny Woo starring in the show. Woo has been performing as a cabaret / drag artist since 2000 and is co-owner of East London queer venue, The Divine (formerly The Glory). Touring shows like Lust In Space or GET HUR across Europe and North America in the late 70’s-90’s – all six queens in a VW van (the real life Priscilla!). Her solo shows included Installations in Stilettos in New York and Up Yours in London at the Purcell Room. Most recently Lavinia had appeared in Escape from Planet Trash and How to Catch a Krampus at the Pleasance Theatre, and Groove at Shoreditch Town Hall.
They will be joining the core cast made up of: Jack Sears, Harri Eiffert, Elle Fierce, Spike King and Marie Astrid Mence.
In this queer, lip-sync cabaret retelling, Giselle is a hopeless romantic, raised on a diet of Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore 1990’s rom-coms, who comes to realise that the real world of queer sex, hook-ups and heartbreak is a far cry from Hollywood’s happily-ever-after.
What follows is a journey through shame, assimilation, anger, acceptance and – finally – liberation and joy. All performed to a soundtrack of queer icons ranging from Judy to SOPHIE.
A mixture of live performance art meets warehouse cabaret meets pop concert extravaganza.
Jack Sears – Co-creator and Performer, said:“GISELLE: Remix is a timeless story about the effects of unrequited love, examined through a queer lens. The show is laced with queer music, visuals and ancestry throughout. Our three queer icons have been my personal touchstones throughout the years as to what can be accomplished, who we can become and how we can thrive. It’s the greatest honour to be able to share a stage with them. The show ultimately asks a bigger question: what do we as queer people have to fall back on when all else around us seems lost? I cannot think of three more iconic people than Kit, Jonny and Lavinia to help me answer it.”
Giselle Remix arrives at The Pleasance Theatre following its sell-out premiere at the Royal Opera House. Created by Jack Sears and Hannah Grennell, the show features choreography by Hannah Grennell and is produced by Molly McGeachin at The Project People and executively produced by Patrick Bone.
