Zinnie Harris’ adaptation and production will run in the West End from the 5th October until the 20th December.

It has been announced that Jodie Whittaker will star in Zinnie Harris’ take on John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi when it heads to the Trafalgar Theatre later this year.
The Doctor Who and Broadchurch star is heading back to the stage for the first time in over a decade, having last been seen on stage in Antigone at the National Theatre opposite Christopher Eccleston, back in 2012.
Recently widowed and in search for a new lease of life, the Duchess (Whittaker) defies her family’s wishes by remarrying beneath her class. However, when her brothers, driven by insurmountable greed and rage, discover her second marriage they unleash a series of cruel and devastating punishments against her that repress her power. But will their vicious atrocities come back to haunt them?
Zinnie Harris’ take on the tragedy first premiered at the Edinburgh Lyceum Theatre in 2019, with further casting and creative team for this revival yet to be announced.
Talking about her return to the stage Jodie Whittaker said: “I’m beyond delighted to return to the stage after over a decade, and even more so to lead Zinnie Harris’ incredibly powerful adaptation of John Webster’s harrowing drama. Zinnie has so brilliantly propelled The Duchess of Malfi into contemporary culture, which is what originally drew me to the piece. Being able to portray the Duchess’ tragic and captivating story on stage every night is a true honour.”
It was also confirmed that the actress won’t appear in the show on the 18th and 19th October.
The Duchess will run at the Trafalgar Theatre later this year.
