The production of Zinnie Harris’ adaptation is currently in previews at the Trafalgar Theatre.

Production images have now been released for Zinnie Harris’ adaption (of which she also directs), ahead of its opening night on the 16th October.
The cast is led by Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), who is returning to the London stage for the first time in over a decade. She is joined by Paul Ready (Motherland) as The Cardinal, as well as Joel Fry, Rory Fleck Byrne, Jude Owusu, Elizabeth Ayodele, Hubert Burton, Matti Houghton, Hannah Visocchi, Kerill Kelly, Greg Snowden, and Amy Vicary-Smith.

Recently widowed and in search for a new lease of life, the Duchess (Whittaker) defies her family’s wishes by remarrying beneath her class. However, when her brothers, driven by insurmountable greed and rage, discover her second marriage they unleash a series of cruel and devastating punishments against her that repress her power. But will their vicious atrocities come back to haunt them?

The children’s casting for the production includes: Baylie Agbonlahor, Christopher Azzopardi, Céleste Fraser, Flor Gandra-Lobina, Hugh Holden, Erin Jemmotte, Isaac Vasunia and Malakai Young.
This adaptation of the tragedy was first seen on stage at the Edinburgh Lyceum Theatre in 2019.

The creative team also includes set and costume designer Tom Piper, co-costume designer and associate set designer Max Johns, lighting designer Ben Ormerod, composer Oguz Kaplangi, sound designer MJ McCarthy, video and projection designer Jamie MacDonald, casting director Serena Hill, and children’s casting director Debbie O’Brien.
It has been confirmed that Jodie Whittaker is not scheduled to appear in the play on the 18th and 19th October.
The Duchess will run at the Trafalgar Theatre from the 5th October to 20th December 2024.
