REVIEW: Amus Hotel & spa

Advertisements

Filled with choice in terms of where to relax and in an easy location to get to both the airport and the Old Town of Rhodes, this is an ideal location for families and couples.

Designed to offer ‘a warm and welcoming stay’, the Amus Hotel & Spa has plenty to recommend it in terms of luxury and comfort for families and couples – with a kids club available (open from June to September for those aged  4-12 years old) as well as a children’s pool, while there is treatment room designed for couple’s treatments in the spa.

But for solo travellers, while many of the staff are friendly, welcoming, professional and helpful there were one or two who made this traveller feel a bit of a fish out of water and didn’t come across as wanting to be as helpful as possible to ensure that I didn’t require any assistance.

However, this aside this was a comfortable and luxurious stay, with my room (as seen above) being light and airy with an understated elegance to it that made it a real joy to stay in – even with a bit of unexpected welcome in terms of a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit to help guests settle in.

It is also an extremely large complex, meaning that although there are lots guests and staff around, it never felt overly busy particularly when you bear in mind there are five pools, a stretch of private beach to enjoy, gym, tennis court, several places to enjoy food and drink as well as the spa to enjoy a range of treatments.

Elsewhere, you also have the options for dining at the Varkarola Restaurant, situated next to the adult only pool, offering perfect Al Fresco dining and a mixture of Italian and international options on its extensive menu. The Bakaliko Taverna (reservation is required) offers traditional Greek food, while the Oliveto Italian Restaurant is the latest addition to the hotel. You could say you are spoilt for choice dining wise.

For those looking to indulge in a pre or post dinner drink, guests have the option of paying a visit to the classy Rodian Bar, situated on the 11th floor and offering the highest view of the sea in which in the distance you can see Turkey and enjoy the twinkling lights of the bay below.

From 6pm to 1am in the morning, guests can also enjoy sampling a signature cocktail at the Sunset Bar – a great place to relax and unwind. In addition, there is also a pool bar and the waterfall cafe on the ground floor to enjoy if you are looking for somewhere a little more casual.

Location wise, it is perfectly placed in terms of getting both to the airport and city centre, with buses fairly regularly being able to take guests in both directions if you are looking to venture away from the hotel for a day trip. Right on the coast, the beach and stunning views are never too far away.

The pools are amazing and the private strip of beach (complete with access in a way in which you don’t have to attempt to cross the road) is a wonderful way to get the complete experience without having to travel too far. Everything is very conveniently placed. The beach might be a little bit rough and feel a little bit gritty on the feet, so flip flops are advised if going for a dip in the sea – but this is a really minor thing to note.

The whole of the Rhodes Bay Hotel and Spa feels like comfortable luxury – never feeling intimidating or overwhelming, making it a perfect location for families to unwind as well as those without children.

It has to be said though, the hotel does offer fabulous spa facilities that are worth paying a visit to if you get the chance (you can use the steam room, sauna and hot tub for thirty Euros a day – which is highly recommended). The treatments include facials and massages – in which this writer enjoyed a gentle kiss massage (to help relieve stress and anxiety – which was very much needed) as well as a sun kissed rebel treatment (which helps with sun exposure). The spa staff were kind, helpful and soothing – in particular specialist Marianna (who carried out my treatments) who offered kind advice which I will be sure to follow in terms my next massage!

Overall, the Rhodes Bay Hotel and Spa is a great place to unwind and relax on the beautiful island of Rhodes.
