Here’s a guide to some of the well known faces you can catch on London stages this year (please note though performances by any of those listed can’t be guaranteed in case of illness and holiday)
Imelda Staunton in Hello, Dolly!, London Palladium: this is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated musicals to be revived in the West End this year, offering audiences the opportunity to catch the beloved theatre star back on stage, taking on the title role – to great acclaim (of course!).
Ben Whishaw & Lucian Msamati in Waiting for Godot at the Theatre Royal Haymarket: opening for previews at the West End theatre from the 13th September and running until the 14th December, this new production of Samuel Beckett’s play will be directed by James Macdonald. The cast will also include Tom Edden (Crazy For You, Cyrano De Bergerac) and Jonathan Slinger (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Richard III) as Pozzo.
Leyton Williams & Rhea Norwood in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club: now starring in Rebecca Frecknall’s critically acclaimed production until the 21st September, the pair star in the iconic roles of The Emcee and Sally Bowles respectively.
Jodie Whittaker in The Duchess at the Trafalgar Theatre: in performances from the 5th October, this production based on John Webster’s play has been adapted for the stage by Zinnie Harris. This will mark the Doctor Who and Broadchurch star’s first stage role in over a decade .
Adrian Dunbar & Stephanie J. Block in Kiss Me Kate at the Barbican: don’t forget to head to the Barbican this Summer to catch the star of Line of Duty and Broadway star being part of a stellar cast in Bartlett Sher’s revival of the classic musical – playing only until the 14th September.
Mark Strong & Lesley Manville in Oedipus at the Wyndham’s Theatre: from the 4th October, Robert Icke’s adaptation of the Sophocles play will take to the stage. Those who enjoy a Greek tragedy and experienced Icke’s take on Oresteia will not want to miss out on a ticket to see this.
Alexandra Burke in Sister Act at the Dominion Theatre: now playing in the West End until the 31st August, don’t forget your chance to catch Alexandra Burke in this hilarious musical adaptation based on the 1990’s film!
Vanessa Williams in The Devil Wears Prada at the Dominion Theatre: following in the its run at the Theatre Royal Plymouth this Summer, this musical struts its way into the West End this October, with Vanessa Williams playing the iconic role of Miranda Priestly.
