NEWS: Molly Osborne to Make Broadway Debut in Othello

The revival of Shakespeare’s play will take place as part of Broadway’s 2024/2025 season.

It has been announced that Molly Osborne will make her Broadway debut in Kenny Leon’s production of Othello, taking on the role of Desdemona and joining the previously announced Denzel Washington as Othello and Jake Gyllenhaal as Iago.

Denzel Washington stars as Othello, the noble Moor of Venice and commanding warrior-general. Opposite him, Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Iago, the ambitious lieutenant and masterful manipulator.

Spurned for promotion, Iago’s relentless quest for vengeance against Othello and his wife, Desdemona , plunges them into a shocking web of deception and betrayal.

Molly Osborne played Tzeitel in Trevor Nunn’s production of Fiddler on the Roof and starred as Chana in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Paula Vogel’s Indecent. She was most recently seen in the musical The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Kenny Leon last directed Denzel Washington in the 2010 revival of August Wilson’s Fences (in which he would then go to star in the 2016 film) and the 2014 production of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. This production will mark Jake Gyllenhaal’s first Shakespeare play.

Othello was last performed on Broadway in 1982, starring  James Earl Jones in the title role with Christopher Plummer as Iago. It was last seen in New York  in 2016 with Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo at the New York Theatre Workshop.

Further details about this revival of Shakespeare’s play has yet to be announced.
