Interview With…Cormac Corrin-Hyde

We chatted to Cormac about making his stage debut in James Hogan’s Northbound Boy at the King’s Head Theatre from the 13th August until the 1st September.

Hi Cormac, how does it feel to be making your stage debut? Challenging but exciting. Super fun. I am a bit scared, but my costars Neil Ashton and Sarah Moyle are old pros and have been giving me loads of tips.

Can you tell us a bit more about what Northbound Boy is about? Sex, drugs and antiques! It’s about an age gap relationship with a bit of family interference. Unhappy homes, and the direction of your life taking a different turn from the one you expected. Grief, loss, love and connections.

What was it about James Hogan’s story that made you want to be part of the production? I like the way his style of writing leave things up to the audience to come to their own conclusions. And then having those conclusions smashed to pieces and then built up again. Also- he doesn’t spell everything out on the page- there’s stuff too explore and that really exciting for me as an actor- especially with such awesome people to play opposite.

Could you tell us a bit more about your character Rory? He’s a cheeky little geez with a dog called brindle. He carries his home on his back, and wears his heart on his sleeve. He thinks he’s a tough guy, but deep down he’s as soft as a pancake. With daddy issues.

How has it been working on the production so far? It’s been a rollercoaster, but I’m here for it. Every day I learn something new- and the cast learn something new from me- like the other day I taught them about Drake, Neil thought he was a duck! And Neil taught me about bewitched- that 90’s shit is decent.
