The 2024 festival will officially get underway in the city on the 28th August and will run until the 7th September. Here’s a few films we can’t wait to hear the reaction to…
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: officially opening this year’s festival, Tim Burton’s sequel to his 1980’s classic will be certainly be able to pull a huge audience in as we are invited to catch up with what has happened to the Deetz family since we last saw them as well as the infamous title character so brilliantly portrayed by Michael Keaton. Since the trailer was released, there have been questions as to whether the sequel can compare to the original – but either way this is certainly going to get a large reaction! It will be released in cinemas on the 6th September.
The Room Next Door: another film that is sure to generate a big buzz is Pedro Almodóvar’s first film made in English and starring the supreme talents of Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. The story follows that of two friends who worked together on a magazine in their youth but are brought back together under unexpected circumstances. While the trailer doesn’t give much away, it does suggest a rather compelling and distinctive story to be told. It is set to be released in cinemas on the 25th October.

Maria: Angelina Jolie is set to portray the famous opera singer Maria Callas in this brand new biopic on her life. Directed by Pablo Larraín, written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), it is reportedly set in 1970’s Paris, focusing on her final years while living there. While a cinema release date has yet to be confirmed, there is no doubting that the actress will give her all to bringing Callas to life.
Wolfs: any opportunity to see George Clooney and Brad Pitt to work together is an absolute pleasure and from the looks of the trailer for their latest film it looks like it is business as usual! The story follows that of two fixers who are usually lone wolves when it comes to their work but when they are forced to work together over the course of an evening in which everything spirals out of their control. I do love an action film and there looks to be plenty of banter to be found as well!
Joker: Folie à Deux: the sequel to Todd Phillips’s 2019 film will be highly expected to do well when it is released in cinemas on the 4th October. As well as Joaquin Phoenix, this sequel will introduce us to Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn – which in terms of the quality of the acting of both is going to bring a very interesting dynamic that will be intriguing to watch.
