Love London Love Culture’s Train Travel Holiday Picks (2025)

Rocky Mountaineer & Alaska tour: since our last cruise took us up to Canada, we really want to go back and explore more of this beautiful country. This itinerary available through Great Rail Journeys is right up our street! Taking us through mountain towns of Banff and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies, while also exploring ake Louise and the Icefields Parkway before boarding the iconic Rocky Mountaineer to travel all the way to Vancouver before setting off on a cruise for more adventures. It might be expensive, but it does sound as though it is the ideal way to explore the best of Canada.

Take a trip on the Jungfrau Express to explore Switzerland: we have never paid a visit to Switzerland before and it does seem that travelling by train is a great way to do it. This particular itinerary has guests exploring the Swiss Alps, with plenty of trains available to explore the surrounding area. It is a fully guided experience for those less sure of where to start!

Lake Como, St Moritz and the Bernina Express: Italy is a hard place not to fall in love with and while we have been plenty of times we have never done it by train. This particular trip really appeals due to the places that you get to visit along the way including Bellagio and of course Lake Como, with optional visits to Milan and Lugano (Switzerland) also included if you want.

Italian & Swiss lakes: sticking with Italy and Switzerland, for those who are looking to travel a little more independently but not sure of where to start this is probably a trip that is worth looking into (which is probably where we would start!). With support available in case of any cancellations and accommodation this is certainly a trip that would give you plenty of time to explore places such as Basel, Lugano and Lecco.

Grand Tour of America: if we were really to push the boat out, then there is no question that this trip would be at the top of our list. This 18 day trip takes guests on a tour of some of America’s biggest cities including: San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago and New York – visiting iconic landmarks including Monument Valley, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls. But of course the trains are big stars of the show as well with Amtrak’s California Zephyr taking guests from Grand Junction through the Rockies to Chicago, the Durango-Silverton heritage railway transporting us past canyons and emerald lakes, and the Lake Shore Limited train skims Lake Erie as people travel overnioght from Chicago to Buffalo, New York.
