The production will run at the Swan Theatre from the 20th June until the 2nd August.
As rehearsals begin, complete casting has been announced for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of The Constant Wife by Laura Wade and based on the 1926 play by W. Somerset Maugham.
Officially opening at The Swan Theatre on the 1st July, the cast joining the previously announced Rose Leslie making her RSC debut in the role of Constance Middleton are: Kate Burton who will play Mrs Culver, Raj Bajaj will play Bernard Kersal, Emma McDonald will make her RSC debut as Marie-Louise Durham, Mark Meadows will play Bentley, Daniel Millar will play Mortimer Durham, Amy Morgan will make her RSC debut as Martha and Luke Norris will play John Middleton. Also making their RSC debuts off-stage understudies are Connor Going and Jess Nesling.
Director Tamara Harvey said: “I am so excited to welcome our company for The Constant Wife to the rehearsal room, bringing together internationally renowned talent, new voices making their RSC debuts, as well as some familiar faces.”
Constance has everything. A loving family, a beautiful home, a fulfilling career, and a husband as devoted to her as he is to his mistress. When her perfect set up is threatened, Constance fights back but refuses to play by the rules. Can she withstand society’s expectations? And can society withstand the force of a woman determined to do things her own way?
The creative team behind the production includes: Set and Co-Costume Designer, Anna Fleischle; Co-Costume Designer Cat Fuller; Lighting Designer, Ryan Day; Composer Jamie Cullum; Sound Designer, Claire Windsor; Movement and Intimacy Director Annie-Lunnette Deakin-Foster and Casting Director, Charlotte Sutton CDG.
