NEWS: Cast Announced for London Return of Danusia Samal’s Bangers

The production will head to the Arcola Theatre from the 17th July until the 10th August, following runs at the Soho Theatre and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023.

Casting has been confirmed for the upcoming new London run of Bangers, directed by Chris Sonnex heading to the Arcola Theatre this July.

Tanya Loretta-Dee (Eastenders, Peaky Blinders, Doctors, Constant Companions) j  joins returning cast members Danusia Samal (Gangs of London, The Serial Killer’s Wife, The Great, Peggy For You, B) and Jim Caesar (Baby Reindeer, The Doll Factory, Death in Paradise, The Witcher) in this production of Bangers, which combines theatre and music.

It’s club night and the tracks are spinning. Two headliners crossfade between stories of love, sex, and the power of music – set against a backdrop of precarious lives in urban London.

Featuring original tracks inspired by early noughties and present-day R&B and Garage, Bangers follows the highs and lows of two strangers struggling with their own pasts, while hurtling towards the future.

Tanya Loretta-Dee will take the role of DJ and narrator, the first new actor to perform the role originated by Sound Designer and Composer Duramaney Kamara. Tanya brings a fresh edge to the role, alongside Samal and Caesar returning to their roles as Aria and Clef.

In addition to the show itself, SH Productions will also deliver community driven wrap-around activity, in collaboration with Cardboard Citizens, Cardboard Collective and the Arcola. These events will support young people interested in theatre and music, as well as those dealing with themes discussed in the show, such as housing insecurity, homelessness, and the challenges of growing up in urban areas.

The production features designs by Zoë Hurwitz, with sound design by Duramaney Kamara and Nikita Bala is the stage manager.
