We chatted to Luke about making his professional stage debut in Vicky Featherstone’s production of This is My Family at the Southwark Playhouse.

How does it feel to be making your professional stage debut in This is My Family? It’s been the most amazing first experience, the entire team are so lovely and I’m learning so much from them. It’s such a privilege to be making my debut in a show of this calibre – working alongside this amazing cast, directed by Vicky and working to Tim’s fantastic script.
What can you tell us about the show? My sister, Nicky, wins an essay competition where she has to describe her family and the prize is a family holiday. She could choose any number of exotic holidays around the world but opts for a camping trip to the site where her parents first met and where the family, which has lost its way a bit, reconnects. The show is about family dynamics, mid-life crises, and teenage angst. But the show is equally about love and connection. I think it will be relatable to most families, as there’s a lot of humour as well as poignancy and sad moments in there.
How do you see your character Matt? Matt proves this example of teenage angst. He’s at the time in his life where every task feels impossible and he’s desperately trying to find out who he is. Beneath the frustration andconfusion though is an emotionally intelligent and thoughtful boy who just needed time to grow.
What has it been like working on the production so far? I’ve loved every second – the cast gets on so well and we clicked from the start! I’ve felt totally supported by both fellow cast members, the director and the crew, and I can’t wait to share this story with audiences!
