Love London Love Culture’s Film Picks: June 2025

John Wick: Ballerina – return to the world of John Wick in this latest film in the series, with Keanu Reeves once again playing the central character. The plot takes place in between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). Direction is by  Len Wiseman and sees the return of characters from previous films played by  Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick (in his final screen appearance) and  Ian McShane.

Juliet & Romeo: ever wondered what a musical film version of Romeo & Juliet would look like? Well your question will be answered in this film directed by Timothy Scott Bogart – the first in a trilogy of films offering a new perspective of the story. Released on the 11th June, the film stars Clara Rugaard (Love Gets A Room / Black Mirror) and Jamie Ward (The Last Supper / His Dark Materials / Tyrant) as the central characters, with the supporting cast including: Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect / JoJo Rabbit), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus / Harry Potter franchise / Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris), Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding / the Shrek franchise), Rupert Graves (Sherlock / Emma), Tony Award-winner, Dan Fogler (A Complete Unknown / Fantastic Beasts franchise / The Walking Dead), and Derek Jacobi (Gladiator II / The King’s Speech).

Elio: Disney and Pixar are releasing their latest collaboration that fsees the title character transported to the Communiverse, an interplanetary paradise that is home to intelligent life from galaxies far and wide. But as he is mistaken for Earth’s leader there is a universal challenge that he will have to overcome. It features the voices of onas Kibreab as Elio, Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa and Shirley Henderson as OOOOO.

How to Train Your Dragon: this live action film based on the 2010 animated film is heading to the big screen on the 13th June, starring: Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur, with Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast from the animated films.

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life: out in cinemas on the 13th June, this new film follows the story of an aspiring writer who joins a writing residency to find herself amidst romantic entanglements that Jane Austen would be proud of. It is directed and written by Laura Piani.
