NEWS: Second Trailer for Wicked Released

The film based on the award winning musical is set to be released in cinemas in the UK on the 22nd November.

A second trailer for the first part of the musical film has been released to offer even more insight as to what audiences can expect from this big screen adaptation.

Before Dorothy, before the flying house, and before the yellow brick road, there was Elphaba and Galinda. Born with emerald-green skin, Elphaba is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possesses extraordinary talent. When circumstances force her to room with the bubbly blonde and exceptionally popular, Galinda, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships. This is the story of The Wizard of Oz reimagined.

The film, directed by Jon M. Chu (In the Heights), stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, with Jonathan Bailey as  Fiyero. The cast also includes Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz and Keala Settle as Miss Coddle – a new character created for the film.

Meanwhile, Marissa Bode will portray Nessarose, Elphaba’s younger sister. The cast of characters also includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots) while Aaron Teoh joins as Avaric with Michael Carmichael as Nikidik. Emmy-Winner Peter Dinklage is set to play Dr. Dillamond in the film.

Wicked features a screenplay Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox as well as music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and score by John Powell. As well as being based on the musical itself, it is also based on the book by Gregory Maguire and features characters created by L. Frank Baum from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The second part of the film is set to be released in 2025.
