The cocktail bar, situated in the five star hotel, pays homage to the notorious all-female crime syndicate.
Offering a menu filled with signature female-inspired cocktails, The 40 Elephants Cocktail Bar offers glamour and spirit – and an ideal place for both social and professional events.
As suggested by the name, the hotel itself previously served as the HQ for the Metropolitan Police – a venue where members of the gang would have
frequented. Today, The 40 Elephants is a vibrant space where guests can indulge in handcrafted cocktails, each with a story to tell.
The Forty Elephants gang were famous and feared by as the UK’s first and only all female gang, taking a unique place in the history of British crime. Renowned for for their glamorous style, high calibre and looks, the notoriety of the young gang came about when lead by Alice Diamond, known as the smartest shoplifter in Great Britain. Under her leadership, they targeted luxury fashion and jewellery shops, successfully stealing the finest garments, furs and diamonds. Nicola Green’s 5-colour silkscreen print of Alice; ‘Bob Haired Bandit’ is embellished with diamond dust and takes pride of place above the fireplace. Each of the gang member’s portraits are portraits surround the bar and items from their thefts are displayed under a glass topped ‘evidence table’.
Meanwhile, on the menu itself highlights include: ‘Flapper Looking Thief’ (Zacapa 23, coffee, hazelnut, butterscotch), ‘Bond Street’ (Bulleit infused figs, ratafia, mollases, citrus foam), ‘Alice in Wonderland’ (Ketel One, PerSe, melon, chocolate), ‘Fencing’ (Belle Rive, Everleaf Marine, Yuzu Tonka Bean, Coconut) and ‘The Tempting 40’ (Carupano 18, Bergamot, Basil, Truffle). A number of non alcoholic options are also available.
On the new dining menu, starters include: include Lobster Soup, Burrata and Caesar
Salad. Mains include ‘The Fence’ Smoked Haddock Croquettes, ‘Mad Maggie’s’ Quail & Mushroom Scotch Egg, ‘The Regent Tart’ (Vegan Rarebit), ‘Smash & Grab’ Beef Slicers, ‘The 40 Cray’ Roll, Vegetarian Curry, Fragrant Basmati Rice, Grilled Salmon and Dry Aged Beef Burger, plus a selection of further options and Charcuterie and Cheese Boards.
