With the film festival returning very soon, an impressive line up of films have been confirmed. Here’s a few of our picks….
Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man: this latest mystery involving detective Benoit Blanc will make its debut in London as part of the festival, being the opening night gala for the festival. Once again featuring a spectacular starry cast, expect plenty of twists and turns in this almost gothic film…
Die My Love: this pyscological drama based on the 2012 book of the same name by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz is directed by Lynne Ramsay, from a screenplay she co-wrote with Enda Walsh and Alice Birch. Set for release in UK cinemas on the 14th November, the story centres arounf new mother who develops postpartum depression and stars Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence.
Hamnet: based on Maggie O’Farrell’s best selling book, this beautiful story is being brought to the big screen by director Chloé Zhao and follows what happens to William Shakespeare’s and his wife Agne’s relationship in the wake of a terrible tragedy. The film is set to be released in cinemas on the 9th January 2026 (UK).
Jay Kelly: this comedy-drama film starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler will premiere as part of the film festival this year. Directed by Noah Baumbach (who also co-wrote alongside Emily Mortimer), the film follows a famous film actor and manager as they embark on a journey across Europe to think about their relationships with family and the legacies that they hope to leave behind.
Frankestein: it may seem that we might have had our fill of films based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel – but it is clear that director Guillermo del Toro has refreshing take on the story to really delve into the gothic side of the story as showcased in the above trailer. A definite one to watch as Halloween fast approaches!
Bugonia: for those looking for something a little more unexpected then of course once again director Yorgos Lanthimos wil deliver this for his latest film and latest collaboration with Emma Stone. Set for official release in cinemas on the 7th November, the story follows that of two theory conspiracy obsessed men kidnap a CEO of a major company, convinced that she is in fact and alien.
100 nights of Hero: making its UK premiere as part of this year’s BFI London film festival, Julia Jackman’s second film is based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel. The cast for the film includes Richard E. Granty, Felicity Jones, Emma Corrin and Nicholas Galitzine.
Rental Family: set for official release in UK cinemas on the 9th January, Rental Family is a comedy-drama film directed by Hikari, who co-wrote the screenplay with Stephen Blahut. Starring s Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Mahina Gorman, and Akira Emoto, the story follows a lonely actor in Tokyo who starts working for a Japanese rental family service to play stand-in roles in other people’s lives.
