We select some of our favourite albums that we have listened to this year so far…

The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift: the singer’s latest album is beautifully concise, uplifting and reflective. It showcases a change in tone from her previous release The Tortured Poets Department in the sense that many of the songs are more uplifting, but there is still a bite to it as well.
Marisha Wallace Live in London by Marisha Wallace: what makes this album (recorded live at her concert) so special is the way in which every song has been selected to reflect an aspect of her life and career to date. As well as the songs themselves, the listener gets to hear about how the songs and the original artists mean a lot to her – it feels extremely intimate and has plenty of revelations.

Jamie Muscato Live 2024 by Jamie Muscato: i loved the unexpectedness of the song selection on this album. In particular, a rock infused version of ‘Part of Your World’ is a brilliant surprise as is his rendition of Taylor Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’ – it showcases just how versatile he is as a performer.
Here For It All by Mariah Carey: the singer’s 16th album showcases how her voice has adapted over the years. There is plenty to enjoy on this album including ‘Play This Song’ and ‘Jesus, I Do’ which are particular highlights, and throughout there is an assuredness to it that shows that Carey is still very much at the top of her game!

Nobody Else (30th Anniversary edition) by Take That: it is hard to believe that it has been 30 years since this album was released is still one of the most strongest that Take That have put out – yes it would have been lovely to have had more exclusive content as part of it but as it is, it is a wonderful nostalgic release.
Things That Come and Go by Hadley Fraser: this latest album from the West End star has treats aplenty for listeners to enjoy – including his renditions of ‘How Are You Fixed For Love’ and ‘Goodbye’. It is filled with simplicity and charm that makes us sit up and pay attention.

Mayhem by Lady Gaga: her latest album sees her revisiting her early sound and is simply a joy to listen to. It captures her confidence and unique sense of style musically to great effect, with particular highlights including: ‘Abracadabra’ and ‘Perfect Celebrity’. Definitely one of her best albums to date.
Bouquet by Gwen Stefani: this album was a real surprise as it offered a more mellow side to the singer’s capabilities. Filled with retrospection and warmth, there is plenty of highlights to be found including: ‘ Late to Bloom’ and ‘Swallow My Tears’ that have a great sharpness to them, while ‘Bouquet’ and ‘Marigolds’ really showcase her talents to the full.
