We chatted to the actor about starring in ‘Sinderella’ at Scala in London.
What can we expect from ‘Sinderella’? I think the best thing to do when coming to see the show is expect the unexpected! This isn’t like any panto you’ve seen before. It’s of course hilarious and full of great songs and dances and a wonderfully talented cast but there will definitely be a few shockers in terms of scenes! You can expect to have a fantastic night and cry laughing throughout the show!
What have you enjoyed about being part of the show so far? It’s been a wonderful experience so far. I think the thing I’ve enjoyed the most so far is meeting in our cast and getting to know them all! We have such a brilliant team on this show and that
makes the whole experience that much more fun and exciting.
Could you tell me more about the character that you play? I play Buttons and I love him as a character. I get to have a lot of audience interaction which makes for brilliant moments of tongue in cheek comedy. He is head over heels in love with Cinders and he isn’t afraid to let everyone know it! Unlike a lot of portrayals of Buttons, this one
is not one to easily roll over or back down from what he thinks. That is unless Cinderella asks him to, then he’s like putty in her hands!
What do you love about Pantomimes? I love Pantomimes because they are something that are universally enjoyed. They’ve stood the test of time and they are so much fun for people of all ages. I think they’re intrinsically linked to the festive season now and it really makes a lot of people’s year getting to go see Panto, whether that be their local theatres or a London based one like ours. I also feel that the ability to make Pantomimes like ours, for adults only, but still keep a lot of that fairytale wonder involved
just shows how versatile Panto is as a form of theatre.
What’s your favourite part of the festive season? Well that is a very tough question. Pantomime has been and always will be the highlight of my festive season but I think everything about the season is just brilliant. Christmas light switch ons, George Michael singing Last Christmas in every shop you go into, presents, christmas dinner. They’re all my favourite things. Having just one thing is an impossibility for me! However, I do
believe if you come see our fantastic Pantomime it will be your favourite part of this festive season!
