Emma Clarendon selects her favourite cities that she has visited on her travels…well so far!

London: now of course this is more than slightly biased! But London is a city that is vibrant and has a wonderful cultural side to it from theatre to arts exhibitions and beyond – there is plenty to keep visitors and locals entertained on a daily basis. Does it have its imperfections yes but it is certainly a city that brings people from all walks of life together.

Rome: having visited on four occasions, this is a city that has definitely captured my heart with every visit. The history, the people and the food to name but a few reasons. There is such a welcoming and friendly vibe to this city that it is no wonder that I always feel like I’m coming home.

Prague: having never been to this part of Europe before, Prague was definitely a beautiful city to visit. It was easy to wonder around and explore at leisure – even as a solo traveller it was an easy place to explore. Again, the history and culture is impressive and I do hope to go back again in the future.

Vienna: while of course there are aspects of the city that have been brought up to date, for the most part Vienna still feels like it is set in a different time. There is a gentle pace to life that really sets you at your ease – at least that is how it felt to me. The public transport is impressive and there is so much to explore that it is more than worthy for a second trip (incidentally what I’m doing in March!)

Bruges: admittedly, I have only paid a visit to this charming city recently, but it was difficult not to fall in love with its quaintness (and abundance of chocolate shops). The range of architecture and history it has is really impressive as well as being easy to navigate to other parts of the country as a whole. Definitely highly recommend if you haven’t been before.

Barcelona: this is such a colourful and varied city to visit and now i have been three times, it becomes increasingly hard to say goodbye. Strongly affiliated with the incredible work of Antoni Gaudí there is so much to see and do that reflects the past and present of the history of the city it is irresistible to visit.

Florence: this beautiful city is ideal for those who love the world of art. Everywhere you look, there is plenty to be admired and dazzled by. Filled with museums and stunning views everywhere you go, this is a city that is easy to be enjoyed at your own pace.
