Love London Love Culture’s Favourite Morgan Freeman Films

So much has already been said on how brilliant this film, based on Stephen King’s short story is. While Tim Robbins is brilliant as Andy, for me Morgan Freeman offers a deeply thoughtful and powerful performance that always resonates. The speech above is one of the stand out moments from the entire film and always manages to provide a powerful emotional response – calmly and quietly delivered, Freeman reveals just how much Red has learnt over the years.

It is hard to resist a good thriller and this 2001 film starring Freeman as detective Alex Cross has plenty of twists and turns to make for a captivating and thrilling film to watch unfold. With plenty of situations that unfold along the way, it is certainly a film that keeps the audience guessing right until the very end. At the centre of it all, Freeman delivers a fantastic performance as Cross, really delving deep into the character and how he show determination to get to the bottom of the story.

Look while much could be said about certain accents in the film, this is just a really good fun film to watch. Morgan Freeman as Azeem is a perfect foil to Kevin Costner’s impulsive Robin Hood: calm, loyal and aside from Alan Rickman’s Sheriff of Nottingham often gets many of the best lines. This film also showcases the fact that whether he is a leading actor or supporting actor, Morgan Freeman is always a reliable and enjoyable presence.

As one of the most distinctive (and might I just say soothing voices) in Hollywood, it is impossible not to enjoy Morgan Freeman taking on the role of God in this hilarious comedy. In the scene above alone you get a sense of just how much he is enjoying being part of this film. There is a real playfulness that is endearing to watch, while his take on the character also offers a sense of why we should listen to God every now and again – without ever coming across as preachy.

There is always something comforting seeing Morgan Freeman appearing on screen – nothing can go wrong or if it does his character you know will be able to solve it – with Olympus Has Fallen just being one example of this. It is an exhilarating film to watch unfold and to see how decisions are made in this crisis situation. Once again Freeman delivered a solid performance.
