We chatted to Toby about starring in the new Uk & Ireland tour of Jersey Boys the Musical.

Hi Toby, how does it feel to be part of Jersey Boys?
It is incredibly exciting. Jersey Boys is one of those shows that’s become a modern classic, so to be joining the 20th anniversary tour feels very special. The music is iconic, the story is authentic, and it’s such a privilege to be bringing it to audiences across the UK.
When did you first discover Jersey Boys?
I can’t remember the first time I discovered the show. It was likely when I was growing up – it just feels like something I’ve always been aware of. I never managed to watch it when it was in the West End, nor when it had toured previously, but when I really got to know the show over the last few months, what struck me straight away was that it isn’t a typical jukebox musical – it tells a really compelling story behind the music. The songs are fantastic, but it’s the journey of the four men behind The Four Seasons that makes it such a brilliant piece of theatre.
Do you have a favourite song in the musical?
I’d probably say “My Eyes Adored You”. It’s just such a beautiful song. It’s so well written and carries so much emotion, which I think will resonate with audiences. Of course, there are so many truly iconic songs in the show, but that’s one I particularly love.
How has it been working on the show so far?
It’s been fantastic. The company is incredibly talented, and there’s such positive energy in the rehearsal room. Working with so many of the original team behind the show has been truly amazing. Getting to work one-on-one with the people who created the show all those years ago, hearing their stories and learning more about both the production and the real people behind the characters, has been really special. Everyone is working hard to honour what audiences love about Jersey Boys while bringing fresh life to this anniversary production. It’s been a joy to be part of that process.
What can you tell us about your character, Bob?
Bob Gaudio is the youngest member of The Four Seasons and the creative force behind many of their biggest hits. He’s an extraordinary songwriter and musician, and so much of the group’s success came from his talent and vision. What I find fascinating about Bob is that he’s not only hugely gifted, but also incredibly driven and ambitious. Playing someone who had such a profound impact on popular music is both exciting and a real responsibility.
What are you most looking forward to about heading out on tour?
I’m really looking forward to taking the show to audiences all over the country. One of the best things about touring is getting to perform in different cities and seeing how audiences respond night after night. Jersey Boys has music that people know and love, so sharing those songs and that story with audiences across the UK is going to be incredibly rewarding.
