Here’s a guide to some of the shows to look out for this month…
Now in its 75th year in the West End, Agatha Christie’s beloved murder mystery will open a brand new tour at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham on the 3rd September. The cast for this touring production of the show is set to include: Emily Laing (One Life) as Mollie Ralston, Jack Hardwick (The Bodyguard UK tour) as Giles Ralston, Thomas Barrett (Summer Folk, National Theatre) as Christopher Wren, Clare Duffy (Pipe Dream, Union Theatre) as Miss Casewell, James Peake (The Invisible Man, Eastbourne Theatres) as Mr Paravicini and Alfie Richards (The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, UK tour) as Detective Sergeant Trotter. They join the previously announced Nicholas Bailey (EastEnders) as Major Metcalf and Susan Penhaligon (A Fine Romance) as Mrs Boyle.
Who’s Afraid of Viriginia Woolf?, @SohoPlace:
Gillian Anderson and Billy Crudup are set to star in Marianne Elliott’s revival of Edward Albee’s play that is filled with games and truth telling that builds to devastating climax as two couples share drinks and stories. The production will run at the theatre from the 21st September until the 19th December.
A Month in the Country, Donmar Warehouse:
Set to officially open on the 2nd September, this production based on Ivan Turgenev’s play, adapted by Brian Friel will see Sophie Okonedo (Medea ,@sohoplace and Antony and Cleopatra, National Theatre) leading the cast. Directed by Lyndsey Turner, A Month in the Country is a story of passion vs propriety….
Marisha Wallace and Jamael Westman lead the cast in this UK premiere production of Douglas Lyons’ hit play and romantic comedy, directed by 2026 Tony Award-winner Zhailon Levingston. The story follows that of a couple no longer together who find themselves at dinner together – but can they find their way back together or is the past too much to overcome?
Right Before I Go, Soho Theatre:
From the writer of Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls comes this new show that draws on real suicide notes and personal testimonies from the range of backgrounds including public figures, veterans, young people, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people living with mental health challenges. Showing for strictly limited run run from the 5th to the 10th September, the show will feature a rotating cast including: Dominique Moore (Horrible Histories), Claire-Marie Hall (Operation Mincemeat), Emrhys Cooper (Nosferatu, Coronation Street, Vanity), Maureen Lipman (Educating Rita, Agony), Paul Bigley (Shakespeare in Love, The Danish Girl) and Tosh Wanogho-Maud (Kinky Boots, Titanique).
Three Men in a Boat, Rose Theatre:
Based on the novel by Jerome K. Jerome, this new adaptation of the story by Al Smith will take to the stage from the 18th September until the 10th October. Featuring original songs by Grant Olding, the show follows that of three friends as they set out on a carefree boat trip up the Thames – from leafy Kingston to Oxford’s dreaming spires. What can possibly go wrong?
Jane Eyre A Musical, Southwark Playhouse:
This five time Tony award nominated musical adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s novel will officially open at the Southwark Playhouse on the 8th September, continuing to play until the 24th October.
