NEWS: Casting Announced for Off-Broadway Revival of Spring Awakening

Initial casting has now been announced for the upcoming New York revival of Duncan Sheik and Seven Sater’s Spring Awakening.

Leading the company will be:  Tyler Jordan Wesley as Melchior, Ashlyn Maddox as Wendla, Ryo Kamiayashi as Moritz, and Amalia Yoo as Ilse, alongside Antonio Porciello as Hanschen, Jack Bateman as Georg, Jada Simone Clark as Thea, Leif Coomer as Ernst, Nando Morland as Otto, Khadija Sankoh as Martha, and Grace Slear as Anna.

The adults have decided the teens are better off not knowing. About their bodies, about their wanting, about anything that happens after dark. So they’ll find out on their own.

Spring Awakening the musical is based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play. It was originally produced on stage by produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, before transferring to Broadway in the winter of 2006. It went on to win several Tony Awards including: Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score trophies, as well as a host of others. It received a Broadway revival in 2015, presented by Deaf West, while a London revival ran at the Almeida Theatre in 2021.

This revival will see Celia Rowlson-Hall will choreograph and Or Maias will serve as music supervisor. The creative team also includes Christine Jones and Brett Banakis (scenic design), Kaye Voyce (costume designer), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), Cody Spencer (sound design), Jeremy Chernick (special effects designer), Cynthia Meng (music director/conductor), David Lai (music coordinator), Ann James (intimacy coordinator), Drew Leary (fight coordinator), C A Johnson (creative consultant), Miranda Cornell (associate director), and Gigi Buffington (voice and text coach). Elizabeth Allen serves as the production stage manager.
