The first video has been released ahead of the European premiere of Grey Gardens. It features Jenna Russell performing ‘Another Winter in a Summer Town’.

Singing the haunting ballad, Jenna Russell who won an Olivier award for Best Actress in a musical for Sunday in the Park With George in 2007, will be performing in the European premiere production when it arrives at the Southwark Playhouse in January.

Based on the iconic film, Grey Gardens follows the story of the real life rise and fall of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s aunt and cousin, Edith and Edie Bouvier Beale – played in the London première by Olivier Award winners Sheila Hancock and Russell.

Directed by Thom Southerland and with a book by Doug Wright, Grey Gardens begins in 141 at an engagement party taking place at the mansion house in East Hampton, Long Island. What follows is a musical story that unfolds two women’s lives from American aristocrats to reclusive social outcasts who live in squalid conditions.

The musical features music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie. Grey Gardens has won three Tony awards as well as being nominated for a further seven in 2007 and twelve Drama Desk Awards on Broadway.

It has also been announced that Mark Shenton (Chief Critic of The Stage and London correspondent of Playbill) will be hosting a post-show question and answer session on Friday the 8th January with the show’s Tony nominated creative team – Doug Wright, Scott Frankel and Michael Korie. Entry for the session will be free to ticket holders of that evening’s performance.

Grey Gardens is on at the Southwark Playhouse from the 2nd January to the 6th February 2016.
