Review Roundup: Star Wars The Force Awakens

It has been one of the most highly anticipated films of 2015 – but as the reviews start to come in is it worth the wait?

The Guardian: ***** Peter Bradshaw said: “The Force Awakens is ridiculous and melodramatic and sentimental of course, but exciting and brimming with energy and its own kind of generosity.”

The Independent: **** Christopher Hooton wrote: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens is actually probably objectively the best Star Wars yet”.

The Verge:  Bryan Bishop commented:”Abrams and his collaborators have made a movie that feels resoundingly fresh and new by paying tribute to a style and story that is decades old.”

The Telegraph: ***** Robbie Collin thought: “It’s storytelling like this – addictively bold and wildly exciting – that sends The Force Awakens surging through your capillaries and straight to your heart.”

The Mirror: **** David Edwards warns potential audiences that: “Resistance is futile”.

Empire: **** Helen o’Hara said: “By the end, this finds fresh ingredients to add to the Star Wars formula”

The Daily Mail: Brian Viner found: “The Force Awakens is a triumph of escapism and the most exhilarating film yet in this mighty franchise.”

Time Out: ***** Joshua Rothkopf said: “the rollicking, space-opera spirit of George Lucas’s original trilogy (you can safely forget the second trio of cynical, tricked-up prequels) emanates from every frame of JJ Abrams’s euphoric sequel.”

This may be a brief selection of reviews – but all seem to suggest that as well as being a big box office hit anyway the film actually deserves to be. The film is released tomorrow.
