Based on the hit film, the musical opened at the Phoenix Theatre last June, but is set to close on the 5th March.

Directed by Gurinder Chadha, the show follows Jess as she is torn between her dream of playing football or following her family’s wishes by going to university and getting married.

The current cast includes Jamie Muscato as Joe, Natalie Dew as Jess and Lauren Samuels as Jules as well as featuring music by Howard Goodall and lyrics by Charles Hart.

In a statement, it was said that producers are finalising both national and international touring offers – including a tour of India.

Bend it like Beckham the Musical  topped Time Out’s Top West End Musical poll, as well as being shortlisted in the Evening Standard’s Radio 2 Audience award for Best Musical.

Talking about the show, Director Gurinder Chadha said: “I am incredibly proud of the Bend It Like Beckham cast, musicians, production and creative teams. We opened at the Phoenix Theatre to the most amazing five star reviews and we’ve inspired and entertained people of all ages and all backgrounds, something I have not seen in the West End for many years.”

The production initially opened at the Phoenix Theatre to rave reviews from critics. Here is what some of them had to say about the show:

The Guardian: *** “it has the same exuberant cheerfulness as the film, and a similar tendency to offer easy solutions to difficult social problems.”

The Independent: “as an uplifting celebration of multi-cultural Britain, this show plays a blinder.”

Evening Standard:**** “there’s a rich humour throughout, and it’s impossible not to get swept along by Jess’s fairytale.”

British Theatre.com **** “Bend It Like Beckham gives multicultural musicals a good name – and rightly so.”

The Daily Mail: ***** “turns out to be like the best sort of FA cup match: end-to-end entertainment, full of feisty shimmers and heart- stopping melodrama.”
