Rehearsal images for Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh’s production of Romeo and Juliet at the Garrick have been released today ahead of the production opening for previews on the 12th May.

This production of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy will run at the Garrick Theatre as part of the Keneth Branagh Theatre Company’s first season of work at the Garrick, from the 12th May until the 13th August.
Romeo and Juliet will reunite the stars of the celebrated Disney film Cinderella, with Kenneth Branagh along with Rob Ashford directing Lily James and Richard Madden in the tale of forbidden love.

The full cast includes: Marisa Berenson (Lady Capulet), Jack Colgrave Hirst (Benvolio), Tom Hanson (Paris),Matthew Hawksley (Anthony, First Musician, Friar John and Third Guard), Derek Jacobi (Mercutio), Taylor James (Prince), Pip Jordan (Potpan, Second Musician and Second Guard), Ansu Kabia (Tybalt and First Guard), Racheal Ofori (Sampson and Page), Nikki Patel (Balthasar), Chris Porter(Lord Montague), Zoë Rainey (Lady Montague), Michael Rouse (Lord Capulet), Meera Syal (Nurse), Samuel Valentine (Friar Laurence) and Kathryn Wilder (Peter and Apothecary).

For those unable to attend performances in London, there will be an opportunity for audiences to watch the performance on the big screen. The Romeo and Juliet screening will take place on Thursday 7th July (http://www.branaghtheatrelive.com/) and will be directed by Benjamin Caron, who has also recently directed the broadcast of The Winter’s Tale and collaborated with Kenneth Branagh on the forthcoming series of Wallander, due to be broadcast on the BBC in 2016.
The final production in the Plays at the Garrick season will be The Entertainer, which will run at the theatre from the 20th August until the 12th November.
