A new trailer for The Colony starring Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl, directed by Florian Gallenberger has been released.

This brand new UK trailer is unveiled ahead of the film’s release in cinemas and on demand on the 1st July.

Florian Gallenberger’s thriller is based on harrowing true events, following one woman’s attempts to rescue her lover from a brutal cult.

Set amidst the Chilean coup of 1973, The Colony opens with a depiction of the masses on the streets, protesting against General Pinochet. Among them are Daniel (Daniel Brühl) and Lena (Emma Watson), a young couple who, like many others, get arrested by Pinochet’s secret police for producing propaganda against the regime. Following his arrest, Daniel finds himself trapped in a secret interrogation camp located beneath the infamous Colonia Dignidad; a German sect under the leadership of the notorious, charismatic and unflinching Paul Schäfer (Michael Nyqvist)…

Examining one of history’s lesser remembered atrocities, The Colony is a brutal and on the edge of your seat film, that was created with input from real-life survivors  of the Colonia Dignidad.

First impressions ? It looks like quite an intense experience, made even more so by the knowledge that it is (however loosely based) on real life stories. This is a very different type of film that fans of Emma Watson have become used to, but could potentially see her career take a different direction. Sharp and brutal, it doesn’t look like it will be an easy watch for audiences.

The Colony will be released in cinemas and on demand from the 1st July.
