Kerry Ellis, Preeya Kalidas and Ramin Karimloo are to headline a concert performance of Stephen Schwartz’s musical Godspell at St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden on the 30th and 31st August.
The musical theatre stars will lead a cast of new young performers to launch The British Theatre Academy, through a concert show of Godspell’s timeless story of friendship, loyalty and love.
This special concert will be directed by Dean Johnson with musical direction by Michael Bradley and the evening will be presented by Mark Shenton associate editor and joint lead critic of The Stage.
The British Theatre Academy has been set up to give young people who can’t afford access to theatre training the opportunities to work with top creatives in venues across the UK.
British Theatre Academy Artistic Director Matthew Chandler said: “I am delighted that Kerry, Ramin and Preeya are giving our kids the opportunity to work with such amazing, inspiring, world class talents. Godspell promises to be an unforgettable expeience for them all.”
Tickets for the performances cost £17.50 each, with proceeds going towards the British Theatre Academy, allowing young people the opportunity to perform.
Kerry Ellis is best known for her appearances on the West End and Broadway stages in another Stephen Schwartz musical Wicked. Talking about the news Ellis said: “It’s so great to have the opportunity to work with new talent who have passion for the arts, that’s exactly what the kids from the British Theatre Academy are all about.”
Meanwhile, Preeya Kalidas most recently appeared on the West End stage in the musical based on the film of Bend it Like Beckham, while Tony Award nominated Ramin Karimloo is best recognised for playing Jean Valjean in Les Mirerables and the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.
